BASARNAS' technology: Now and Then
High-Technology equipment is a must have for this organization and it’s a crucial thing to have. The differences of BASARNAS’ tool equipment were very different from time to time. When the first time BASARNAS established in 1972, was not supported with any amount of money, human resources or any Search and Rescue equipment. Because of that limitation, if our country struck down by a natural disaster, for instance the Tinombala tragedy, at which time BASARNAS was under the leadership of Air Marshall S. Dono Indarto they find difficulty to search the Twin Otter Plane that crashed at Mount Tinombala in 1977.
Over time, this organization gains a lot of attention from the President and the government. Afterward, BASARNAS got their own equipment and accommodation such as SAR chopper, rescue boat and people who are an expert in rescuing. For example, the incident of Air Asia QZ8501 in late 2014, sunk at the bottom of the ocean but was able to be found and can be lift to the surface.
